Valuable antiques, Chinese porcelain and finest glassware will also be shown, as well as Turlish and Central European weapons, cannons, state carriages and royal hunting trophies. The Orangerie, built during Frederick I's reign and reconstructed after World War II, provides the ideal setting. This exhibition is the main event of the Prussian tercentenary celebrations in 2001. It presents a panorama of political, intellectual and cultural situation in Europe around 1700. Die Palette der Ausstellungsobjekte reicht von Architekturteilen über Statuen, Büsten und Medaillen, von Werken der Kleinkunst aus Elfenbein und Bernstein bis zu geräten aus Silber und Gold, von Aquarellen und Kupferstichen bis zu grossformatigen Gemälden. Zu sehen sind ebenso kostbare Antiken, chinesisches Porzellan und feinste Werke der Glasmacherkunst. In der nach dem Krieg wieder aufgebauten Orangerie kommen türkische und mitteleuropäische Waffen, Kanonen, Prunkschlitten und die königlichen Jagdtrophäen in einem Gebäude dieser Zeit zur Geltung. Die Ausstellung ist das Hauptereignis des Preussenjahres 2001 in Berlin. It is a totally innovative museum project, offering visitors an interactive experience embracing the cultural history of their home town and presenting first-hand reports highlighting aspects in common with citizens of the European cities which are partners, as well as differences in lifestyle, concerns and hopes. Subjects include aspects of everyday life in Europe, covering the relationship with the city and the natural environment, plus major events in society and extending to music and culinary traditions. The programme was devised by the City of Luxembourg History Museum, in partnership with the Helsinki museum, the Liverpool Museum and the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn. As an exhibition-festival, the project combines many different approaches and is designed to attract a wide cross-section of visitors, including those who are not usually museum-goers. The event has already been presented in Helsinki (August 28 to 31, 2002) and Luxembourg (October 10 to 13) and is scheduled for another two European cities, Liverpool (March 21 to April 27, 2003) and Bonn (May 13 to 18, 2003) which are partners in the project.
